Type locality: Brazil, Amazonas, Carauari, Rio Juruá, beach 2 km upstream Sacado do Juburi, 05°10'15"S, 67°13'27"W. [1]

Etymology: The specific epithet labiatus is a Latin word meaning large-lipped, in allusion to the expanded labial membrane diagnostic of this species.
