  • Pomacentrus maafu Allen & Drew, 2012

Holotype: ROM 92387. Paratypes: ROM 46160 (28), 48653 (36), 48645 (46); USNM 298829 (52); WAM P.32333- 003 (9), P.33634-001 (23).

Type locality: Fiji, Viti Levu, Great Astrolabe Reef, Dravuni Island, 18.758°S, 178.520°E, 3-10 m depth.

Etymology: The species is named maafu with reference to Enele Ma’afu’out’itonga, commonly known as Ma’afu (1826-1881), a Tongan prince and warrior, who at age 22 migrated to the Lau Group of Fiji and eventually became the leader of the resident Tongan community as well as a Fijian Chief. He was a man of two kingdoms and as such his influence reflects the geographic distribution of P. maafu.
