Holotype: SAIAB 67069. Paratypes: SAIAB 186057 (10).

Type locality: Botswana, Okavango Delta, southeast of Chief’s Island, Boro River, 19°31'57"S, 23°05'21"E.[1]

Etymology: The specific name is a combination of the Latin magnus (= great) and truncus (= trunk), refering to the relatively big body of the species.
