- Holotype: CAS 3935, adult ♂, skin and skull, collected by a member of the California Academy of Sciences Expedition to the Gulf on 12 June 1921.
- Type locality: “Santa Catalina Island (25º43’50”N Lat.), 17 miles NE of Punta San Marcial, Lower California [=Baja California Sur]”, Mexico.
