Type locality: Brazil, Pará, Altamira, Rio Xingu, Ilha de Babaquara, upstream Altamira, 03°23'45"S, 052°12'16"W.[1]

Etymology: The specific name is given in honor of Dr. Eliana Feldberg, researcher of Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, for her many contributions on cytogenetics of Amazon fish.
