Name
editParvacara Whitley, 1951
Type species: Acara dorsiger Heckel, 1840 -- Type by being a replacement name.
Status: Unneeded replacement for Nannacara Miranda-Ribeiro, 1918 (not an original description), regarded as preoccupied by Nannacara Regan, 1905 in fishes. Nannacara Miranda-Riberio, 1918 is sometimes cited as an original description (e. g. by Jordan 1920: 564), but it is a subsequent use of Nannacara Regan, 1905, as explained by authors (e. g. Trewavas, 1957, Kullander, 1986: 324).
Perhaps Parvacara is not available from Whitley, 1951 on technical grounds as it is not technically a replacement name and must stand on its own as a generic description. Apparently a senior synonym of Laetacara Kullander, 1986. Current status: Synonym of Laetacara Kullander, 1986.
