Type locality: "mouth of Urauchi-gawa River, Irimote-jima Island, Yaeyama Group of Ryukyu Islands, Japan".

Etymology: (Latin) saltator = dancer, "in allusion to the mating behavior of the male of this species" [Suzuki & Senou, 2013: 58]
