Type locality: "Nago Bay, Okinawa-jima Island, Okinawa Group of Ryukyu Islands, Japan" (depth: 5 m).

Etymology: ("Latin") rhino = nose + keras = horn, "in allusion to the small anteriorly directed skin projection on the tip of the upper lip in the new species" [Suzuki & Senou, 2013: 63]
