  • Paratypes: BPBM 41209 (1, 0); USNM 432463 (1, 0); WAM P.30810-003, P.33354-002 (2, 0), P.33103-002 (1, 0), P.33950-001 (2, 0).

Type locality: southwestern Flores, 08° 48.573’ S, 119° 50.200’ E, Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia, 15–20 m depth.

Etymology: The species is named in honor of the Paine family (Dexter, Susan, Mercy, Sam, and Honor), who have generously supported the authors’ reef-fish taxonomic efforts since 2009 and have frequently joined them for field investigations.
