- Type locality: Grube Messel, Hesse, Germany. Messel Formation, Middle Eocene, c. 47 Ma (Mertz & Renne 2005).
- Etymology: The species name refers to the Eocene.
- Paratype: FIS MeI 8710, head of gyne or worker in full face view.
