Type locality: HMS Challenger Expedition 1873-1876 station 122. Atlantic Ocean, Brazil. 9°05′00″S 34°49′00″W / 9.0833333°S 34.816666°W / -9.0833333; -34.816666. Depth 350 fms.

Syntypes: MCZ OPH-980 [1]; MCZ OPH-640 [2]; NHMUK 1957.8.26.3 [3].

Etymology: named after Axel Vilhelm Ljungman.
