Type locality: Indian Ocean, off Socotra Islands (Yemen), 12116′6″N, 53108′2″E – 12114′7″N, 53106′2″E; 375–380 m depth.
Etymology: The specific name ornata (lat. ornatus = ornate) was used for the species dorsal color pattern of dark brown spots encircled with beige pigment and arranged into rosettes.
