Type locality: Indian Ocean, Saya da Malha Bank, Mascarene Trawl Survey Station 19, 10.91°S, 60.97°E [1], 127 m depth.
Etymology: The specific name flavomandibularis, from the Latin flavus (= yellow), and mandibula (= lower jaw), was given in reference to the striking yellow colour on the lower jaw of this species.
