Type locality: Branch of Nzorband creek, near village of Nzorband, 0°34'06.2"S, 10°12'46.4"E [1], 12 kilometers north of Lambaréné, Moyen-Ogooué Province, Gabon.
Etymology: The specific name is from the Latin vigilis (= watchful), in allusion to the relatively large eyes of this species.
