Type locality: Sungai Gora, 6° 03.058’S, 134° 24.032’E, tributary of Sungai Mareremar, Kobroor Island, Aru Islands, Maluku Province, Indonesia.

Etymology: The species is named picta (Latin: painted) with reference to its beautiful colour pattern.
