  • Paratypes: ZMMU P23456 (1), P23457 (1); IO RAS 03265 (2), 03268 (1), 03269 (1).

Type locality: Professor Mesyatsev, cruise 7 (PM7), April 2, 1979, trawling no. 25, bottom trawl, 30°50′ S, 93°08′ E, depth 1162 m.

Etymology: Specific epithet proximus, from Latin (= nearest, closest), stresses its close relation to Atlantic Melamphaes longivelis.
