Type locality: R/V Akademik Ioffe, cruise 29, November 19, 2009, station 21843, 29°28′ S, 0°11′ E, station depth 4106 m, trawling depth 2000–0 m.
Etymology: The species is named after Stanislav Genrikhovich Kobylyansky, friend and colleague of the author in the Laboratory of Oceanic Ichthyofauna, Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, Russian Academy of Sciences. He is the famous researcher of the mesopelagic fauna of the World Ocean and provided the author with materials on fish from the family Melamphaidae collected on cruise 29 of the Akademik Ioffee research vessel.
