- Holotype: MVZ 51675, adult sex indet., skin, skull and postcranial skeleton, obtained by Charles D. Brower on 10 December 1931.
- Type locality: “Point Lay, Arctic Coast of Alaska”, restricted to “near the head of the Kukpowruk River, at about lat. 69°N” by Rausch (1953: 117).
