  • Holotype: ZSM 42204.
  • Paratypes: ZSM 42196-42203, 42220-42221.

Type locality: Côte d’ Ivoire, Comoé River, Kafolo, Campement de Recherche sur les Mouches Tsétsé, 9°36′N, 4°19′W [1].

Etymology: The specific name gracilis is the Latin word for slender, it was given, because this species is more slender than the other Ivorian and many of the West African Marcusenius species, including M. furcidens.
