Type locality: Brazil, Mato Grosso, Peixoto de Azevedo, trubutary of Rio Peixoto de Azevedo, at Cacheira da Neblina, Rio Tles Pires basin, 10°23'10"S, 54°18'22"W [1].

Etymology: The specific name is a combination of the Latin tri (= three), and striatus (= stripes), in reference to the three dark stripes on the body.
