Type locality: Brazil, Amapá, Laranja do Jari, Rio Iratapuru, tributary of Rio Jari, at Cachoeira São Raimundo, 0°33'59"S, 52°34'40"W [1].
Etymology: The specific name is a combination of the Greek mikro (= small), and physus (= bladder), in reference to the small gas bladder present in this species.
