Type locality: Atlantic Ocean, 09°39′N, 59°47′W, in 182 m depth, OREGON sta. 1986.[1]

Etymology: From the Greek zophos (= darkness) and cheier (= hand; i.e., the pectoral fin) in reference to the blackish pectoral fin.
