Holotype: USNM 372169. [Paratypes: BMNH 2008.11.27.1–3, UF 173039 (4), USNM 394517 (16), ZRC 51544 (3), USNM 372149 (1)].
Type locality: Myanmar, Kachin State, Hpa-Lap stream, of Nam Chim Chaung, of Nan Kwe Chaung, NW of Myitkyina, 25° 31' 36" N, 97° 22' 45" E.
Etymology: Greek alkaia for "lion’s tail", in reference to the tail-like dark stripe on the caudal fin.
