  • Paratypes: AMNH 258083 (1, 2); MRAC B3-01-P-1 (0, 1).

Type locality: Democratic Republic of Congo: Kasaï Occidental Province: Lulua Basin, Kambambe River at village Kazadi, 6°32'56" S, 22°42'16" E.

Etymology: The species is named after Melanie L. J. Stiassny of the American Museum of Natural History, New York, who supported us in many ways in our studies on the systematics of the Cyprinodontiformes of the Congo Basin.
