Holotype: UFRJ 8295. Paratypes: UFRJ 8294 (4, c&s), 8296 (12), 4780 (4), 4781 (5), 8298 (5, c&s).
Type locality: Seasonal swamp adjacent to right bank of Verde Grande River, a tributary of São Francisco River, near the village of Gado Bravo, 14°55'20"S, 43°29'56"W, Estado de Minas Gerais, Brazil, elevation 457 meters.[1]
Etymology: From the Latin radiseriatus (= with a series of rays), an allusion to the light short lines between the subdistal portion of the dorsal-fin rays in males, which is a diagnostic feature of the species.
