Type locality: Brazil, Espírito Santo State, Guarapari, Rio Grande county near the frontier between Guarapari and Anchieta, rio Benevente drainage, 20°37'29"S 40°37'3"W.
Etymology: The specific epithet thayeri is named after the Thayer Expedition, realized in the middle of the 19th century and considered one of the most important journeys performed in Brazil, during which the species was sampled for the first time.
