- Type locality: COSTA RICA: Puntarenas, San Vito, Las Cruces, Wilson Botanical Gardens, 1150m.
- Etymology: The specific name is from the Greek pyhtorion, meaning nursery, in reference to the type series being collected in the Wilson Botanical Gardens in Puntarenas Province.
