Gymnogeophagus terrapurpura Loureiro et al., 2016

  • Holotype: ZVC-P 12490.
  • Paratypes: many.

Type locality: Uruguay, Canelones Department, cañada de la Lana, close to Juanicó Town, rio Santa Lucía basin (Río de la Plata tributary), 34°35´55”S, 56°14´19” W.

Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the G. E. Hudson novel “La Tierra Purpúrea” (as it is known in the Spanish translation), in which the main character makes a trip through the same region where the species occurs.
