Type locality: reef near road at Marsa Muqabila, north-west coast Israel, Gulf of Aqaba.

Etymology: The specific epithet was given for the characteristic vertical oval blackish to dark grey blotch across caudal fin base, and is derived from the Latin cauda (= tail), and macula (= spot).
