Type locality: Tutuala, Timor-Leste, 08°21.723’S, 127°04.488’E [1], 8 m depth.
Etymology: The species is named in honor of Connisso Antonino ("Nino Konis") Santana, a national hero in Timor-Leste's struggle for independence who was renowned for his environmental awareness. The type locality of this beautiful goby species is in Tutuala, just offshore of Santana's birthplace, and moreover is located within the Nino Konis Santana National Park.
