- Type locality: Indonesia, Papua, Wamena, Moss forest between Theila and Lake Habbema, 2800-2950 m.
- Holotype: ZSM, ♂, 22.X.1993, leg. A.Riedel.
- Etymology: This epithet is a combination of the Greek adjective platys (wide, flattened) and the Latin substantive rostrum (snout) and refers to the apically flat and widened rostrum.
