Name

edit

Ephoria Herrich-Schäffer, 1855

Type species: Phalaena ephora Stoll, [1781] (page 110, pl. 347). In: Cramer by monotypy

Fletcher & Nye (1982) stated: The only species that Herrich-Schäffer included in Ephoria was listed by him as Ephoria m.paradoxa Cr. 347. D. (ephora)'. The name paradoxa was proposed unnecessarily by Herrich-Schäffer as an objective replacement name.

Synonyms

edit
  • Colabata Walker, 1856
    • Type species: Colabata lineosa Francis Walker, 1856 by monotypy

See Herbin & Mielke, 2018: The generic name Ephoria was published in Herrich-Schäffer’s Synopsis familiarum Lepidopterorum, which was published twice, first in the Syst. Bearbeitung Schmett. Eur. 6: 82-132 (specifically page 91) on [31].XII.1855, and second in the “Synopsis” of the same, which was included in the Samml. neuer oder wenig bekannter aussereur. Schmett. 1: 2-52 (specifically page 11) on [IX.1856]. The name Colabata was published in Walker, 1856, List Specimens lepid. Insects in Col. Br. Mus. 7: 1736, which was available for issue on 10 May 1856 (Nye 1975: 6). Therefore, Ephoria has precedence over Colabata.
