- Holotype: GU/RSR/VAS 5001 (Fig. 2A), nearly complete left ilium.
- Type locality: Cambay Shale Formation, middle Ypresian, early Eocene. Vastan Lignite Mine, Surat District, Gujarat, India.
- Etymology: The species name is for Italian paleontologist Massimo Delfino, who alerted the authors to the presence of a particular articulation similar to a zygosphene-zygantrum complex on the vertebrae of this taxon.
