- Holotype: USNM 268307, adult male, collected 22 May 1986 by G.R. Zug.
- Type locality: Fiji, Rotuma, 1.0–2.0 km south of Ropuri (12°29’S, 177°04’E).
- Etymology: The name derives from oriva, one of three Rotuman words for lizard.
