Holotype: NMW 920, sex unknown but probably ♂, a skin with missing distal tail and skull without rostrum.
Type locality: “vom Amazonenstrom,” but according to the catalogue “Manaqueri im Mündungsbereich des Rio Solimões” (Pelzeln (1883: 63); now Manaquiri, lower Rio Solimões, Amazonas, Brazil.
