- Syntypes: MNHN 0000-2440 (2) Vanicoro, A-7931 (1) New Guinea; RMNH (1, dry).
- Type localities: India; Vanicoro [Solomon Islands]; New Guinea.
- Etymology: Species is named in appreciation after Heinrich Kuhl, who first discovered the species.
