- Holotype: ZRC 2.6962, adult male, collected on 24 March 2011 by L. L. Grismer, S. Anuar, E. S. H. Quah, Chan, K. O., and M. A. Muin.
- Type locality: Wang Kelian, Perlis, Peninsular Malaysia (06°41.805 N, 100°10.751 E) at 150 meters elevation.
- Etymology: The specific epithet astrum is Latin, meaning “a star” and is in reference to the starry pattern of the white dorsal tubercles.
