Type locality: Brazil, Estado do Pará, Almeirim Municipality, Rio Mopeco, left tributary of Rio Paru, left tributary of lower Rio Amazonas, 0°49'24.2"N, 53°55'46.4"W [1].

Etymology: The specific epithet aninha is the nickname of Ana Prudente (MPEG), wife of the first author, and pays tribute to her contributions toward the understanding of the Neotropical fauna, specifically the systematics of snakes.
