Type locality: Mato Grosso State, municipality of Cuiabá, tributary of Rio Aricá Mirim, Rio Cuiabá drainage, Rio Paraguai basin, 15°46'03"S, 55°30'44"W.

Etymology: The specific name coxipone refers to the Coxiponé indigenous people who inhabit the margins of Rio Cuiabá, near to the municipality of Cuiabá in Mato Grosso State, Brazil.
