- Holotype: at MZUSP #1746, ♂ (from FMNH-INS 28980).
- Type locality: Rio Mapari Município Japurá, Amazonas, Brazil.
- Type host: Phoenicircus nigricollis (Swainson, 1832) (Aves, Passeriformes, Cotingidae).
- Etymology: Named after Joshua I. Engel (FMNH), in recognition of his past and ongoing efforts to collect avian parasites in the field. Noun in the genitive case.
