Type locality: Chun'an County, 29°36'N, 119°05'E [1], Zhejiang Province, Qiantang Jiang basin, China.

Etymology: The specific name is a reference to the family name of the famous ichthyologist and ecologist Liu Jian-Kang to commend Prof. Liu J.-K. for his outstanding contributions to the study of sinipercine fishes.
