Type locality: Chiwanda River, Momba drainage, 32 kilometers northwest of Tunduma near Chiwanda, Mbeya Region, western Tanzania, 9°10'S, 32°33'E [1].
Etymology: The specific name refers to the Lake Rukwa drainage where the species is endemic.
