- Holotype: CUMV 95230.
- Paratypes: AMNH 251410 (20); CUMV 95231 (20, 1 c&s); MRAC 2010-006-P-6-10 (5); SAIAB 87164 (5).
- Type locality: Kigoma Region, Malagarasi River at rapids, 6.4 km upriver from Ilagala barge crossing, 5.2013400°S, 29.9001400°E [1], Tanzania.
Etymology: This species is eponymously named for Mr. George Kazumbe, an expert fisherman and friend of the authors from Kigoma, Tanzania. He has assisted the authors and several of their colleagues doing fieldwork in Tanzania, and the authors wish to honor him for his service.
