Holotype: AMG P953. Paratypes: AMG P954 (9).
Type locality: Lekkerloop River, tributary of Komati River of Incomati River system, on the farm Vergelegen, Carolina District, South Africa (25°56'45.6"S 30°40'03.5"E).
Etymology: The specific name emarginatus, from the Latin (= notched at the apex), refers to the shape of the caudal fin.
