Holotype: AM PA422 (previously AM Bennett’s Cat. 35), juvenile ♀ skull, collected by Sir Thomas Mitchell.
Type locality: “banks of the River Murray[, south of the junction with Murrumbridge River] … in the interior of New South Wales”, Australia.
