Name
editCentromochlus (Balroglanis) Grant, 2015
- Type species: Centromochlus schultzi Rössel, 1962
Etymology: Balroglanis is derived from the Maia, a Balrog known as Durin's Bane, who terrorised Durin the Deathless' descendants in Khazad-dûm, in J. R. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings legendarium, and Greek, glanis = a catfish. The name has been given to recognise the larger size of species of the subgenus when compared with Duringlanis, the relationship between the two subgenera and the two fictional characters, and the 'horns' of the nuchal shield alluding to the horns of the Balrog.
