- Holotype (unique): CLC I-441a, b.: part and counterpart of a complete and well preserved specimen.
Formation and locality: Zorzino Formation, Upper Norian (Late Triassic), Cava Ratta, near Cene (region of Bergamo, Lombardy, northern Italy).
Etymology: The specific name is dedicated to the Italian palaeontologist Rocco Zambelli (1916-2009), from the Museo Civico di Scienze Naturali “Enrico Caffi” (Bergamo), who was the first to study all the pholidophorid fishes from the Late Triassic of northern Italy.
