- Paratypes: BPBM 44150 (0, 1); NSMT 114626 (0, 1, 1); USMN 410731 (1 (c&s), 0, 1).
Type locality: Great Barrier Reef, Linnet Reef [1], west side of reef, 6-15 m depth, from the gorgonian Ellisella quadrilineata.
Etymology: The specific name tectus is from the Latin meaning secret, hidden, or disguised, in reference to its being misidentified as another species.
