Bitis arietans (Merrem, 1820) [conserved name]

  • Lectotype (icnotype): specimen described and illustrated by Seba (1735: 55, pl. 54, fig. 4). [designated by Wallach, Williams & Boundy (2014: 91)]
  • Type locality: “Promontorio bonae spei [=Cape of Good Hope]”, Western Cape Province, South Africa.
  • Placed on the Official List of Specific Names in Zoology by Opinion 188 (1945).
