Type locality: Democratic Republic of Congo, Province Orientale: Bakéré river at Yambula-Bakere (01°42’41"N, 23°43’24"E).
Etymology: From the Latin flammeus for bright red or burning, referring to the bright red spot on nape in front of dorsal fin.
